Sen has come a long way. The hustle and bustle of London's East End is certainly a far cry from her native Botswana, one of the most sparsely populated countries in the world.
Sen enjoyed a carefree childhood surrounded by the arid grasslands and diverse wildlife of her home country and was given eight pigeons to care for by her Grandmother at the tender age of seven. Little did she know that these were not meant to be reared as pets, but with the ulterior motive of providing a hearty lunch.
They never met their intended fate because Sen fell in love, first with the pigeons and then with the colourful birds of Southern Africa. She even became a member of the unfortunately named Botswana Bird Club – bird watching being one of the passions she still entertains today at the Primrose Hill aviary.
