The Museum of English Rural Life Exhibition
Description

The Museum of English Rural Life Exhibition

The refurbished Museum of English Rural Life greets its visitors with a spectacular array of objects inviting the audience to delve deeper into the history of the countryside. Whilst the objects are the stars of the show the exhibition graphics provide the 'glue' that ties together a variety of objects from all walks of life.

Exhibition texts set in the museum's house typeface Quadraat Sans not only further an in-depth understanding of the subject matter, they also enhance the display with their appearance steeped in the hand-crafted lettering tradition.

A special set of pictograms and a stencil version of the Quadraat Sans typeface were developed to complement the exhibition graphics.

The Museum of English Rural Life

The Museum of English Rural Life houses the most comprehensive collection of objects, books and archives relating to the history of food, farming and the countryside. The Museum was established in 1951 and is a part of the University of Reading and its long-standing academic tradition.

The 2016 opening of the Museum’s new galleries was celebrated with a completely rethought display of the collection masterminded by exhibition design company GuM. The display injects a most welcome dash of magic into the Museum’s aim to deepen the public understanding of rural life and the countryside.
